Well this is the perfect project for that! Fabric..
Bunting is a great way to constantly be inspired by your favourite fabric, it is also easy to personalise to your own taste.
It also a great way to use up your fabric scraps too...
What you will need...
- Fabric
- White/ cream fabric - this is optional you may want pretty fabric both front and back
- Bias binding
- Ric rac - lace trim optional..
- Card for making your template
- Usual sewing equipment ....
First you need to decided what shape bunting you would like, triangle, square, half circle...
I drew around an embriodary hoop to get my template ... It measure 8 3/4" x 4 3/4"
Depending on weather you want to see pretty fabric an both sides or not, cut either double pretty fabric or the same amount of pretty fabric as your backing fabric. I use a cream cotton for the back of mine.
Either draw around your template and then cut out...
Or use your rotary cutter to cut around...
Iron your fabric..
Place either 2 pretty pieces together ( pretty side to pretty side) or one pretty fabric with one white, pretty sides together
Pin in place
Sew around the edge of the fabric, but not at the top.
Turn the fabric right side out, continue sewing around all your bunting .
Iron.
Arrange your bunting in the order that you want them to hang, pile them up in order you need to sew them.
Next take your basis binding, fold in half and sew a couple of inches, this will give you room for hanging.
Take your first piece of bunting and place it inside the fold, if you want to add a trim add that on top of the bunting, so you have a sandwich, bottom on bias, bunting, trim and top of bias.
Stich about 1-2" in between each bunting.
Continue adding all your bunting, remember continue stitching to the end of the bias to allow for hanging..
Then all that is left to do is hang it .....
Happy sewing
Really, really pretty! I love the touch of lace, I'll definitely try that sometime. I was also wondering after your last post what binding you used. I used bias binding and am glad to see I was on the right track!
